1. Tổng quan về cấu trúc as soon as

As soon as là gì?

Đầu tiên, cùng tìm hiểu về liên từ (conjunction) trong tiếng Anh.

Trong tiếng Anh, liên từ được hiểu đơn giản là những từ có chức năng liên kết hai từ, cụm từ hoặc các mệnh đề lại với nhau. Có 3 loại liên từ:

1. Liên từ kết hợp (coordinating conjunctions): được dùng để kết nối hai (hoặc hơn) đơn vị từ tương đương nhau: từ vựng, cụm từ, mệnh đề,…

Ví dụ: and, but, yet, or, nor, for, so, …

2. Liên từ tương quan (correlative conjunctions): được dùng để kết nối hai (hoặc hơn) đơn vị từ tương đương nhau: từ vựng, cụm từ, mệnh đề,…

Ví dụ: both … and, not only … but also, either … or, neither … nor, rather than,…

3. Liên từ phụ thuộc (subordinating conjunctions): được dùng để bắt đầu mệnh đề phụ thuộc, nối mệnh đề này vào mệnh đề chính trong câu.

Ví dụ: because, since before, after, though, although, if, until, when, even if,…

As soon as là là một liên từ phụ thuộc, có nghĩa là “ngay khi”; diễn tả một sự việc xảy ra ngay sau một sự việc khác.

Ví dụ:

As soon as I opened the door, I realised there was someone in the room_Ngay từ khi tôi mở cửa, tôi đã nhận ra có ai đó trong phòng.

It rained as soon as she leave the house_Cô ấy vừa ra khỏi nhà thì trời mưa.

I will give him your letter as soon as I meet him_Tôi sẽ đưa anh ấy bức thư của bạn ngay khi gặp được anh ấy.

2. Cấu trúc và sử dụng as soon as trong tiếng Anh

As soon as có thể được sử dụng ở thì hiện tại, quá khứ và tương lai, thể hiện 2 hành động diễn ra liên tiếp.

2.1 Cấu trúc as soon as ở hiện tại

Chúng ta dùng cấu trúc as soon as ở thì hiện tại đơn để diễn tả một hành động lặp lại nhiều lần.

Công thức: 

S1 + V (hiện tại đơn) + as soon as + S2 + V (hiện tại đơn)

Ví dụ:

• He checks his phone for messages as soon as he wakes up_Anh ấy kiểm tra điện thoại ngay khi vừa thức dậy
• My brother opens the fridge as soon as he arrives home_Em trai tôi về đến nhà là mở tủ lạnh ra ngay
• Jane forgives her boyfriend as soon as he says sorry even when he hits her_Jane tha thứ cho bạn trai của cô ấy ngay khi anh ta nói xin lỗi thậm chí khi anh ta đánh cô
• My sister runs away as soon as I call her name every time_Em gái tôi chạy biến đi mỗi lần tôi gọi nó

2.2 Cấu trúc as soon as ở quá khứ

As soon as có thể được sử dụng để diễn tả 2 hành động nối tiếp nhau trong quá khứ.

Công thức: 

S1 + V (quá khứ đơn) + as soon as + S2 + V (quá khứ đơn/quá khứ hoàn thành)

Ví dụ:

• She said that she alerted the police as soon as she realised what was happening_Cô ấy nói cô ấy đã báo cảnh sát ngay sau khi nhận ra chuyện gì đang xảy ra
• Tom turned on the TV as soon as he had completed his homework_Vừa làm xong bài tập về nhà Tom liền bật TV lên.
• He came as soon as I had finished painting the bedroom wall_Anh ấy đến ngay lúc tôi vừa sơn xong tường phòng ngủ.
• I felt better as soon as I drank a cup of hot chocolate_Tôi cảm thấy thoải mái hơn ngay sau khi được uống một cốc sô-cô-la nóng.
• My mom knew I was telling a lie as soon as I spoke the first word_Mẹ tôi biết là tôi nói dối ngay khi tôi vừa mở miệng.

2.3 Cấu trúc as soon as ở tương lai

As soon as cũng có thể được sử dụng để nói về 2 hành động nối tiếp diễn ra ở tương lai chưa diễn ra ở thời điểm nói.

Công thức:

S1 + V (hiện tại đơn đơn) + as soon as + S2 + V (hiện tại đơn/hiện tại hoàn thành)

Ví dụ:

• I’ll go to the shop as soon as it stops raining_Tôi sẽ đến cửa hàng ngay khi trời tạnh mưa
• I’ll go home as soon as the show has ended_Tôi sẽ về nhà ngay khi buổi biểu diễn kết thúc
• I’ll go to the dentist’s as soon as I have a toothache_Nếu bị sâu răng tôi sẽ đi nha sẽ ngay
• As soon as you meet Janet, you will love her_Ngay khi gặp Janet, bạn sẽ yêu cô ấy

Lưu ý:

Chúng ta có thể đảo as soon as và mệnh đề sau as soon as lên đầu câu mà không thay đổi ý nghĩa của câu nói:

She burst into tears as soon as she saw him.

=> As soon as she saw him, she burst into tears.

Công thức:

3. AS SOON AS POSSIBLE

Đây là một cấu trúc rất quen thuộc trong tiếng Việt, còn được viết tắt phổ biến là ASAP. AS SOON AS POSSIBLE mang ý nghĩa càng sớm càng tốt, sớm nhất có thể. Trong một số trường hợp, ASAP còn để thể hiện mong muốn ai đó làm gì ngay lập tức một cách tế nhị.

Phân biệt As soon as và Until/While/When

As soon as: diễn tả hành động, sự việc này thực hiện liền ngay sau hành động, sự việc khác ở quá khứ

Ex: She phoned me as soon as she finished the test.

(Cô ấy đã gọi cho tôi ngay sau khi cô ấy đã kết thúc bài kiểm tra)

Until: diễn tả số lượng, khoảng thời gian

Ex: It’s only 3 minutes until we begin the exam.

(Chỉ còn 3 phút cho đến khi chúng tôi bắt đầu làm bài thi)

While: thể hiện 2 hành động, sự việc đang xảy ra tại cùng một thời điểm cụ thể

Ex: While I was reading comic book, my sister was studying English very hard.

(Trong khi tôi đang đọc sách thiếu nhi, chị tôi cũng đang học Tiếng Anh rất chăm chỉ)

When: 2 hành động, sự việc xảy ra tại một thời điểm nhưng sẽ cách nhau khoảng thời gian ngắn

Ex: When I got out of the room, I found out forgetting the documentary.

(Khi tôi ra khỏi phòng, tôi đã phát hiện mình quên tài liệu)
